Jo In-seong was born and raised in Cheonho-dong, Gangdong-gu, and Seoul, South Korea.He started his acting career by taking a role in popular daytime sitcom nonstop. Eventually he was cast in a minor role in his first TV drama, Piano, on SBS, co-starring Ko Soo as his stepbrother. However, he began to gain fame with his main role in the series To Shoot the Star. He was acclaimed for his portrayal of an illiterate actor. After that he starred in the hit Korean movie The Classic, in which he played "Sang-min", a man who is unable to show his love to "Ji-Hye" (Son Ye-jin).
In 2004, he was back in TV dramas again in Something Happened in Bali, with the actress Ha Ji-won. This TV drama also achieved high ratings, and he received prizes for Best Kiss and Best Tears at the SBS Awards. In 2005, he played 'Eun Sob' in Spring Days opposite Ji Jin-hee (a famous actor from Dae Jang Geum). Eun Sob is a doctor who has an unpleasant past with his mother and his stepfather. Eun Sob is also in love with a girl who loves his brother (Ji Jin-hee). In 2005 he was in the movie A Dirty Carnival, in which he played Byung-doo, a charismatic and yet gentle small-time gangster who seeks a happier life. In December 2008, Jo In-seong returned to the screens with A Frozen Flower. He began serving his two-year mandatory military service in April 2009.
